Telecommunicator of the Quarter

Jacob Mueller Recognized as Telecommunicator of the 1st Quarter

A man in a blue shirt receives an award from a police chief during a meeting, honoring his work as a telecommunicator.

Please congratulate Jacob Mueller, from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, for being recognized as Telecommunicator of the 1st Quarter!

"Recently, ESC Mueller took a 911 call from a 98-year-old man who said someone had come into his house and was in his bedroom. Usually, when these types of calls are received, it is because the reporting party has some sort of diminished mental capacity, as calls for home invasions are extremely rare.

During the call, ESC Mueller documented that he could hear someone in the background of the 911 call that was not the caller. Due to that comment, the Patrol Sergeant authorized additional units to respond emergently. ESC Mueller kept the caller on the line and provided detailed notes about where the suspect was in the residence and what he was doing. Doing this allowed the responders to have a clear picture of what was occurring and get to the location quickly. Once responders arrived, the suspect was very aggressive, and they determined he was under the influence of methamphetamines. It took five deputies to get the suspect restrained and into a patrol unit as he resisted. Due to his heightened behavior, the suspect could have seriously injured the caller if responders had not arrived as quickly as they did.

The detailed and quick updates that ESC Mueller put into the call allowed the Patrol Sergeant and responding units to make quick decisions and keep everyone safe. The Patrol Sergeant on duty stated that ESC Mueller's attention to detail should be commended."

Great job, Jacob!
